HOW DO WE SOCIALISE & SPREAD THE WORD

Everybody is given cellphones they can use leaving a track on their E-identity (electronic identity), as similarly observed in the country of Estonia.

However, each individual has access to their own, full E-identity profile and is alerted via cell phone notification if their profile has been viewed by, for example, the police, meaning no other citizen has access to another individual’s E-profile unless they are given permission by that person or the government. Concerning media,  newspapers publish information by the government and private companies, though the information is monitored through a policy prohibiting the release of panic provoking or inducing news, avoiding most efforts from newspapers to gain readers by manipulating the people who read their newspaper. Competition in media is established by whom writes the best, most informative and objective reports. Moreover, should any catastrophic circumstance suddenly arise, each person, having been provided with a personal cell phone, would be immediately informed and advised about, for instance, finding shelter. Other such circumstances include possible attacks from terrorist groups,  wanted criminals who might have escaped from prison, or someone who might have gone missing. On the topic of social media, Terra Novans have access to certain number of social media webpages in which they can share experiences, pictures, films, etc. depending on what the site concentrates on, though they must always access or open an account through their E-identity, which avoids the issues of unethical citizens opening fake accounts to, for instance, bully others or “catfish”. Moreover, Terra Nova’s social media, unlike real-life versions like Facebook, as it is not company based, does not become proprietary of the information (photos, videos, chats, etc.) or activity on the accounts and users do not ever “inadvertently agree sign away their privacy rights”. Additionally, social media becomes a good use for Terra Novans to find and subscribe to advertisements they are interested in, like the opening of certain restaurants and stores, though unlike in the real world, they are not persecuted by these advertisements, they only become visible if they are seeked out by the individual.
